Get ready for the big one guys because this year, the elements earth, fire, water and air come together to bring us some action-packed adventure movie based from the anime that we have loved. From the director who gave you “The Sixth Sense” and “Lady in the Water”, M. Night Shyamalan brings you an adaptation from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Shyamalan puts aside writing original screenplays for a moment’s time to introduce the story of 12-year-old Aang, who, as the prophecy states, is the last hope in restoring harmony among the four nations of the world which is presently facing chaos and pandemonium. Aang is said to be the Avatar who has the power to master all the four elements: air, fire, earth and water. He is also the last hope to put a stop to the Fire Nation which launched a global war among the other three nations thus restoring peace and harmony to the four war-ravaged countries.
The Avatar was said to have died when he was still mastering his powers but one hundred years later, two siblings discovered him with his flying pet bison stuck in suspended animation. Now, Aang, together with his new found friends Katara and her brother Sokka, must embark on an adventure to help Aang master all the four elements and realize his goals to become the mediator among the four nations finally restoring balance to the world.
Child actor Noah Ringer will portray the 12-year-old Aang. Nicola Peltz (who also appeared in“Deck the Halls”) will be casting Aang’s waterbending friend Katara and from “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” who played Jasper Hale, Jackson Rathbone is Katara’s older brother, Sokka. Together, these three must stop the reign of terror of the Fire Nation’s Prince Zuko (which will be casted by Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel) and his Uncle Iroh (Shaun Toub). Fire Lord Ozai, the leader of the Fire Nation, will also be portrayed by Cliff Curtis.
This awesome flick will hit the big screen on the 2nd of July this year. Watch The Last Airbender online to follow Aang’s journey and find out if he’ll succeed with his mission or will he perish from the wrath of the Fire Nation. Indeed, the fans of the animated series can expect much from its big screen counterpart but still expect to see the good ol’ funny and child-like Aang.
